Aqueous solutions of furacillin in the form of drops, irrigations, tampons, bandages are used to treat wounds of skin and soft tissues, bedsores, ulcers, phlegmon, mastitis, conjunctivitis. In anaerobic infection, chronic purulent processes, it is advisable to use an alcoholic solution of furacillin. Inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, pharynx and vagina is treated with furacillin ointment

Application

To prepare an aqueous solution (1: 5000) to 500 ml of boiled hot water add 0.1 g of furacillin or to 100 ml of water - 1 tablet (0.02 g). Obtaining an alcoholic solution (1: 5000), to 150 ml of 70% ethyl alcohol add 0.1 g of furacillin. Furacillin ointment (1: 5000) is prepared by adding to 0.1 g of furacillin 100 ml of castor, vaseline oil or fish oil, then after 10 hours to this mixture add another 40 ml of oil or fish oil.

In mastitis in cows, milk is first milked from the affected part of the udder, and then 25-100 ml of an aqueous solution of furacillin is injected into the milk tank. This procedure is performed 1-2 times a day until complete clinical recovery of the animal. In addition, cows suffering from mastitis, furacillin is administered intravenously as a solution (1: 5000), prepared on isotonic sodium chloride solution in an amount of 300-500 ml

In gastrointestinal diseases of piglets and calves furacillin is given orally 2-3 times a day for 3-5 consecutive days in doses: piglets - 0.05 g; calves - 0.1 p.

It should be borne in mind that furacillin is one of the most toxic nitrofuran compounds for birds, which are most sensitive to it ducks and geese. For example, in calves, furacillin at a concentration of 0.011% causes a decrease in growth, and a concentration of 0.022% already contributes to the development of severe toxic phenomena that lead to death. For goslings in the first 7-10 days, the toxic concentration of furacillin is 0.014%. The minimum toxic concentration of furacillin for adult chickens is 0.034-0.04%.
